Our Situation and Environment
Caldicotes Primary School in Middlesbrough, (N.E. England) was opened in 1951.
The catchment area has a high level of socio-economic deprivation and it also has one of the highest levels of unemployment in the country.
We are part of an Education Action Zone which acknowledges the need for relationships with local businesses and which has generated a number of targetted projects within the school.
Our Nursery takes in 26 children in the morning and a further 26 in the afternoon and children are accepted from the age of three.
They are taught by one teacher and a Nursery Nurse.
As a recent Inspection report stated, "The attainment of children on entry to the nursery is very poor and many have severely restricted language skills."
For that reason there has always been a heavy emphasis placed on the teaching of language and communication skills in our school.
